22.03.2023 Featured Police Confirm Nnamdi Chude’s Arrest But Claim He is Still ‘being Investigated’

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of Nnamdi Chude, a popular Labour Party (LP) supporter.

The police disclosed in a press release signed by Police Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Wednesday that Chude was being investigated for cyberstalking,

“The Nigerian Police hereby confirms that one Mr. Chude Franklin Nnamdi with Twitter handle ‘@chude_’ was arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State, on the 18th of March 2023, and he is being investigated by the Nigerian Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) Abuja, for cyberstalking…,” the statement read in part.

After the arrest on Saturday, citizens and Civil Society Organisations called on the police to either release information on Chude’s offense or release him.

The police have stated that they received a petition against Chude alleging that his activities on social media violated Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 and other criminal laws.

A prima facie case was also said to have been filed against him, with the case file now transferred to the Force Legal Department for further action.
