About 38 villagers killed by gun-wielding Fulani militants in Southern Kaduna have been buried amid tears, FIJ can report.

On Thursday, families and friends of the victims gathered at the GSS Mallagum, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna, for the mass burial.

In a live video of the burial monitored by FIJ, women and children were seen mourning the sudden death of their loved ones.

Fulani militants had invaded Maradun and Abun communities in Kaura on Sunday, shooting sporadically.

The armed men fired a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) to destroy lives and property of citizens, according to witnesses.

Michael Magaji, a priest in the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Kaduna, said 13 members of a family were among the persons killed by the militants. He noted that eight other persons injured during the attack were receiving treatment in a hospital.

“About 20 houses were burnt and 13 persons from the same family killed,” Magaji said. “We intend to have a mass burial to call the attention of the world to what is happening to our people.”

On Tuesday, FIJ revealed the names of 33 people who died in the bloody attack, as compiled by Southern Kaduna community leaders.

Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, described the attack as an “unspeakable display of wickedness”.

“Governor el-Rufai has stated that the Kaduna State Government will bear the full cost of injured victims’ treatment,” Aruwan said in a statement. “The governor ordered an urgent assessment of the area by the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, towards the provision of succour to the affected households.”
