A photo of Major Stephen Datong, the senior military officer abducted by bandits on Tuesday, has surfaced online.

In the photo, shared by Chidi Cali in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Datong spots a ceremonial army outfit, and wraps his arm around his heavily pregnant wife.

FIJ could not ascertain the currency of the photo.

FIJ had earlier exclusively reported that the terrorists who abducted him from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Afaka, Kaduna, on Tuesday had contacted the authorities to demand a N200 million ransom.

Apart from abducting Dantong, the bandits had killed two soldiers: Lieutenant Commodore Wulah and Flight Lieutenant Okoronwo.

Reacting, several Nigerians said the attack was a testimony to the porosity of the Nigerian military and a sign that the country could soon go the way of Afghanistan, where the Taliban, a notorious Islamic extremist sect, recently sacked a democratic government and took power.
