Ogun State indigenes studying at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau State, have debunked claims that they were evacuated and conveyed home by their state government.

On Sunday, Azeez Adeyemi, the Special Assistant to Ogun State Governor on Students’ Affairs, had told newsmen that five buses and security escorts had been provided to take Ogun students in Jos home.

Oluwagbemileke Ogunrombi, President of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), had also said 80 students and corps members had already been evacuated.

“While at the State Liaison Office, we were instructed to vacate by 12 pm on Monday,” the student had said. “We had taken action on our own and got together to move before attention was paid to us and our transport subsidized with N5000.”

Speaking with FIJ on Monday, one of the students said they were only picked up on Sunday and dumped at the Liaison Office, Abuja, where they passed the night.

“We left Jos in the middle of a crisis. If we had known that this was their plan for us, we wouldn’t have followed the bus. It wasn’t until one of us lost consciousness and they saw us making videos that they gave us N5,000 each,” she said.
