Dojarabbit, a baker, has narrated how the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invaded her and her boyfriend’s privacy in a hotel in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Doja told FIJ that the incident happened in A3 Hotels, Samanda, in the early hours of Tuesday.

“At about 3 am, we heard a loud bang from our sleep. Before we knew it, the door was wide open already. Two EFCC officials came in with a guy,” she said.

The officials started shouting at the couple to bring their phones.

Doja said she was confused and did not know what to do at that moment. She said her boyfriend had a nerve condition and he was already scared.

“I didn’t know what all that fear and anxiety could do to him at that moment. He’s into cryptocurrency and NFTs. I knew this could cause trouble,” she told FIJ.

”They asked for his ID and asked him to open his phone. He kept fidgeting because of the phone part and I knew why. I gave him my phone to pass to them, hoping he could hide some apps or something”.

Doja said the EFCC officials asked her if she was a student and she told them she was a baker. She said they went through her gallery and saw the pictures of some of her works.

On checking her boyfriend’s phone, the officials asked Doja if she was the wife. “I told them I was his girlfriend and almost becoming his wife. When they asked why we weren’t married yet, I told them it was because there was no money. They asked why were lodged in the hotel when we had no money to get married, and I told them we wanted a big wedding,” she told FIJ.

Doja said the officials laughed and one of them told his colleague to return their phones so they could go to the other rooms.

She said the officials broke about 250 rooms in the hotel, raided them, and took a lot of girls and boys away.

“They even drove some of their cars away, beat some, and punished some,” she said.

FIJ called the contact number on the EFCC website, but it was not available. They had also not replied to an email sent to them at press time.
