Unidentified gunmen have invaded Okofia Nnewi in Anambra State, shooting sporadically and razing buildings.

One Chioma, a 300 level Medical Rehab student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has been confirmed dead.

Chioma, killed earlier today

Also killed is a boy alleged to have attempted to record the activities of the gunmen along Teaching Hospital Road.

A source told FIJ that offices of the Police Area Command, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were razed.

Also razed was the residence of Joe Igbokwe, a communication strategist for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and an aide to the Lagos State Governor.

Both the Area Command and FRSC offices were rebuilt after last year’s #EndSARS protests.

When contacted, Ikenganyia Anthony, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra Police Command, told FIJ that the Area Command was not on fire, but there was a fire incident in the area.

“There was a fire incident earlier, the police is currently on ground with the military and we are looking to arrest the situation,” he said. “The details are sketchy but we will update you when we have more information.”
