04.01.2022 news Another Bandit Leader Frees 29 Captives in Zamfara

Barely 24 hours after Bello Turji released his captives, Ado Aleru, another bandit kingpin, has set free 29 abductees after spending over 60 days in his den.

Twenty-five of the 29 victims set free on Tuesday are women, while others are male children. Sources said the victims were from the Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.

The victims are receiving treatment from a joint medical team in Zamfara, a source told FIJ.

Ado, as FIJ would learn, heeded Turji’s advice to release his captives. The Zamfara police said Turji released dozens of captives.

Mohammed Shehu, the Zamfara police spokesman, said the police, reacting based on an intelligence report on January 3, deployed its men to Shinkafi Forest, where victims released by Turji were seen wandering around the forest. He said the police were aided by repentant bandits and men of local vigilantes.

Among the victims unconditionally released by Turji are 33 male adults and 10 children.
