One Adenike Adeola introduces herself as a Zenith Bank customer service agent and makes unsuspecting customers reveal their banking information under the pretext of dispute resolution assistance.
Adeola operates using a Twitter account with the handle @hZenithbank. The account directs people to send a message to a WhatsApp number, 07081786582, for immediate response and assistance. This account created in March 2013 jumps on many of the complaints from Zenith Bank customers.
“This is our only whatsapp platform [07081786582] for immediate response and assistance or better still visit our website https://wa.me/message/SOWP3BHZAVNCC1… for immediate response and assistance too Please send a DM,” the handle tweeted on Monday.
When FIJ messaged the number under the disguise of a customer with banking problems to know how they work, the WhatsApp manager identified as Adenike Adeola requested the affected account number. When this reporter produced one, Adeola asked that a form be filled.
The form bore the Zenith Bank logo and requested details on the account number, complaints, the last six digits of the card attached to the account, and the card pin.
Our reporter said she was not available to fill the form, and then the handler requested directly for the card digits and pin. After providing inaccurate details, the handler stated that it was incorrect and went on to ask for the reporter’s BVN and date of birth.

All of these, especially the digits on the card and the pin, can be used to empty an account. This reporter was unable to confirm the gender of the handler, as the number was switched off and WhatsApp calls declined.
Adeola is not the only one parading as a Zenith customer care agent. Other fake Zenith Twitter customer care accounts are @Zeniithbank42, which uses the number 09071124672, and @Zenithbankplcdx, which uses 08082738949.
Checks by FIJ revealed that Zenith Bank’s only WhatsApp customer assistant number is +234 704 000 4422, which is operated by ZIVA, a virtual assistant.
