The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has finally issued certificates to the 2017/2018 master’s degree graduates, after delaying for three years.

Philomena Adukwu, one of the affected students, told FIJ on Monday that she was happy to have obtained her certificate, after years of stagnation in her career.

“I have finally collected my certificate from the school,” she said. “I am so happy and relieved. The non-issuance has led to a bit of stagnation in my career path. But now, I can move on with my life and, hopefully, still achieve my dreams and aspirations with it.”

Philomena also said the delay in the release of their certificates affected her classmates who wanted to advance their careers after completing their post-graduate studies.

“This is not just about me alone. Most of my other colleagues have missed out on many opportunities, including promotion at work because of this issue,” she said. “Some have even given up hope on ever getting the certificates. Career stagnation is not actually a good thing.”

However, after FIJ’s story, certificates belonging to postgraduate students from different departments are now ready for collection.

FIJ had contacted Professor Alabi Soneye, UNILAG’s Dean of Postgraduate Studies, and he said the delay was due to the improper processing of results by some departments during the e-production of certificates.
