The management of Optiva Capital Partners Ltd. has paid N200,000 to Ositadinma Umelo, an ex-employee whose salary was withheld for five months.

Umelo told FIJ that Adeniyi Ifetayo, the company’s media and communications strategist, called him during the week, and promised to pay the owed salary.

He said he received the sum on Wednesday, after the company agreed to compensate him for work done between September 1 and September 20, 2022.

This came two days after FIJ reported how Optiva Capital Partners sent Umelo on performance leave after accusing him of unprofessional conduct on September 20, 2022.

Speaking with FIJ on Wednesday, Umelo said, “I called to thank you for your efforts. They just paid me the N200,000 they owed me.”

Umelo told FIJ he was supposed to earn N310,000 that month, but because they sent him on performance leave and failed to contact him afterwards, the company said he could only be paid for the period he worked with them.

Umelo also said he had been unable to work anywhere since the company sent him away without letting him defend the allegations allegedly made against him.
