Marcus-Okoko & Co., a consulting firm, has paid the sum of N182,250 to Emem Egemba (not real name), the former staff member of NIRSAL whose pension arrears was withheld for several months.

This happened nine days after FIJ reported about the company’s delay in paying Egemba what he was entitled to.

Egemba told FIJ on Friday that Marcus-Okoko & Co. finally paid his long-overdue pension arrears. He said the firm admitted the delay in payment was an error on their part.

“Good morning, FIJ. I just got my pension arrears from Marcus Okoko & Co.,” he told FIJ. “I really have to appreciate you guys for making it possible when all hope seems to be lost. This is an indication once again that the pen is mightier than the sword.”

FIJ had reported how Marcus Okoko & Co. deducted N12,150 from Egemba’s salary as a NIRSAL staffer between August 2019 and October 2020 but did not remit the sum into his pension account.

Later on, Egemba said, NIRSAL ended its contract with some of its consulting firms, including Marcus-Okoko & Co., in 2022, and this made it hard for him to get his money.

Although a staff member of the law firm said Egemba’s case was purely an error on their end, Egemba did not get his money until FIJ intervened.
