The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has cleaned the pedestrian bridge at Iyana-Ipaja, which was defaced with faeces.
Previously abandoned by pedestrians, the bridge is now witnessing an influx of pedestrians on it, FIJ can report.
This development follows FIJ’s reporter’s diary published by FIJ detailing the deplorable condition of the bridge and the risk it posed to pedestrians aatempting to cross the road.
When FIJ first visited the bridge, it was the ugliest and most disgusting sight anyone could imagine, and it oozed stench from faeces and urine.

FIJ learned that officials of LAGESC moved to clean the bridge on Saturday and also arrested miscreants caught defecating on it.
When FIJ visited again on Monday, the bridge was clean, and pedestrians had begun using it after months of abandonment.

A pedestrian who asked not to be named told FIJ he was surprised and happy that the bridge has become clean and fit for use.
“I come to Iyana-Ipaja regularly, and every time I do, I never use the pedestrian bridge until now because of the condition it was. The bridge is now clean and okay,” he told FIJ.
Taskforce officials were also on the road to ensure pedestrians use the bridge and arrest those who refused to.
