Arik Air, while trying to make a flight ticket refund to Chinonso Ugokwe, an Imo State resident, made an excess payment of N51,000 to his account.
This came two weeks after FIJ reported how the airline withheld Ugokwe’s N51,000 after cancelling an Owerri-to-Abuja flight he booked in November 2022.
“I want to thank you for hearing my cry for help and coming to my aid,” Ugokwe told FIJ on Friday.
“The moment FIJ published the story, one of their officials reached out to me almost immediately, telling me that I should not have made the matter public.

“She then made a promise that a refund would be made to my account before the end of February. They did not make the refund as the official promised at month end, but I eventually received the refund on March 2, and, to my surprise, they paid N102,000 into my account instead of the N51,000 I was expecting to be paid.”
Ugokwe told FIJ that he subsequently reached out to the airline’s officials to inform them of the excess payment.
“After informing them of the excess payment on Friday, they asked me to send them a mail to enable them send me a company account number I could return the excess fund to,” said Ugokwe.
“They have sent the account number and I have since returned the excess N51,000 payment to them.

“More importantly, they have sent a mail to acknowledge receipt of the N51,000 I sent back to them. I appreciate all you have done in helping me get my money back. God bless everyone at FIJ.”
After cancelling Ugokwe’s flight without a refund as promised in December 2022, Ugokwe had reached out to Arik Air on Facebook to demand that his money be paid back to him.
To his surprise, the airline blocked him.
“After the refund issue was sorted out yesterday, I decided to visit their Facebook page once more. Interestingly, I discovered that I had been unblocked by the airline,” Ugokwe said.
“Thank you so much, FIJ. I am indeed grateful for your help.”
